OUR MISSION

Many young people are struggling to find their way in a world that is abandoning traditional values for a post-Christian, self-centered worldview. They are desperate for someone to show them love, acceptance, mercy, and grace. Many suffer from lack of direction, poor education, insufficient resources, inexperience, and the effects of drugs, alcohol, and violence. For many young people, relationships with caring adults in an environment where they can learn significant life skills, be productive, and help others, can set them on the path to fulfill their potential for being productive, healthy adults.

The primary target population for the Folk School Farm is middle school and high school aged persons without respect to race, religion, nationality or socio-economic status. All Farm facilities are alcohol, tobacco, and drug free. It is a vision of the Folk School Farm to work with county agencies including County School systems, County Sherriff’s offices, and County Courts to provide a unique approach to assisting young people "at promise" in the Virginia community. The Folk School Farm’s longer term vision is to be a resource to people of all ages for retreats, conferences, and personal development.

ABOUT US

Andrew Sloane, Executive Director, has 30 years experience as a public school teacher, preceded by 13 years as a building contractor. He has taught over 8,000 students from middle school to high school, and has seen the growing need for young people to learn life skills and have mentoring adults to give direction for life. It has been his life-long dream to have a camp for kids, and beyond that, a place for the restoration of souls for the glory of God.

WHERE WE ARE LOCATED

The SonShine Folk School Farm is operated on property on Fleets Mill Pond in King and Queen County, Virginia.

Our prayer is that our LORD God Creator will make this place a resource, refuge and sanctuary for salvation, education, inspiration, restoration, and enjoyment of His creation.
